Collective Worship

Collective Worship at Scargill

Collective worship takes place daily at Scargill and is consistent with the principles and practices of the Church of England and will, therefore, be broadly Christian in character. Collective worship encourages pupils to consider fundamental questions about the purpose of being and about moral and ethical stances.

It allows us to learn and celebrate values we hold to be important and brings children together, enabling them to experience the security of belonging to a community with an identity of its own.

Throughout the week pupils at Scargill have the opportunity to partake in different acts of worship, with moments for them to reflect on their own beliefs throughout.

Most weeks pupils will partake in the following worships;

* Roots and Fruits Worship - an opportunity to explore Christian Values in depth.

* Picture News Worship - a chance to discuss topical news stories, debate opinions and explore British Values.

* Praise Worship - a time to give thanks and praise through song.

* World Worship - time to learn about key festivals from world religions and events in the secular calendar.

* Celebration Worship - time for the whole school to celebrate the achievements of the week.

Withdrawal

Any parent has the right to request the withdrawal of his or her child from school worship and religious education, by making such a request in writing to the head of school.

Collective Worship Committee

Our Collective Worship Committee play and integral part in acts of worship across Scargill CofE Primary School.

Each class democratically elects a member to the Collective Worship Commitee, who have the option to remain in post for two years to develop their role.

The Collective Worship Committee help lead whole school worships linked to our Christian values, through reading and acting our bible stories, leading moments of reflection and posing questions to their peers. Throughout school the committee also lead Picture News Worships within their own classes and deliver prayers throughout the day.

They are committed to upholding the Christian ethos of the school and developing spirituality, taking responsibility for maintaining areas of reflection around the school and encouraging their peers to reflect on the key messages delivered in worship.

The team are also strengthening links with the local Christian community through attending events and services at St Wilfrids throughout the year.

St Wilfrid's Church

Whilst Collective Worship is mainly held in school, groups of children from the school regularly visit St. Wilfrid’s, our local parish church, for reflective learning, Easter and Christmas workshops and to celebrate the major festivals of the church year such as Harvest, Easter, and Christmas.

There is a special service in the autumn term when Year3 pupils are presented with their own bible, and an annual school leavers’ service is held on the last day of the summer term. We have a Collective Worship committee who are involved in planning and delivering Collective Worship to the rest of the school.
