Mr Swift is the teacher for Dolphin Class
Mrs Benn (Mon-Thurs) & Mrs Crawford (Fri) are the teachers for Seahorse Class.
We have a variety of Teaching Assistants within Reception who either support in general, or support children with Special Educational Needs (SEND).
Reception at Scargill school aims to provide a provision of high quality teaching and learning within a stimulating, safe environment providing care and nurture to all pupils. All children are treated as individuals so that their own needs are met regardless of their background or starting point. The strong Christian ethos supports children well so that they complete their Reception year: self-motivated, independent, happy and energised, they will be creative, confident, secure and ready to continue their journey into becoming lifelong learners, to have the ability to form good relationships and be prepared for life.
At Scargill, we place great emphasis on these early years, seeking to provide a learning environment which offers the individual child a very positive beginning. The Reception children have a dedicated indoor and outdoor space within the School, giving them the opportunity to learn both inside and outside the classroom. They learn through play, adult led activities and through structured free play.
Letters with details will be made available below nearer to the time.
Each week we read with the children 3 times at school. We will then send this book home on the Friday, with Friday being our regular book swap day. Please return the book on this day for your next book.
When reading with your child take a moment to share the initial page where there are sections to identify the sounds (phonemes/graphemes) within the book and to understand some of the trickier vocabulary.
There is often a section at the rear of the book you can use to check understanding of the story as this is full of questions.
We read the Reading Diaries on a Friday as we swap the books for any comments you may have written in.
The books are scheme guided to aim for a good level of fluency as the children read.
On Friday children can take home one book from our school library. It is unlikely they will be able to read this book as it is more of a read for pleasure book for you to enjoy with them.
New phonic cards will be added to bags on a Friday inline with coverage. If we haven't taught any new sounds that week we won't add them until they have been taught to ensure you have accurate and update knowledge.
Please use these to ensure the children firstly know the sounds; but can then use them to make words out of.
